Chilled with a Side of Sand
It is cold today. Well, it is at least as cold as it gets here today. Right now outside my drafty windows it is only 49°F but with the chilly wind coming from the north it feels like 42°F. For those of you who use the metric system it's 9°C and feels 6°C. Here in the desert where we don't own more than light jackets...that is cold.
I've been bundling up my kids before dropping them off at school this week. It is good to put away the shorts for a couple of months (not packed away, just left in the drawer..never know when they will be needed).
Every summer when it is 115°F outside (46°C) I long for days like this. It's dry and cold, hard on the skin, but a welcome change for a little while. Thankfully I have not yet reached the point of being cold where I wish for the summer temps. Sometimes I wish for springtime, but never summer.
So, with the weather change comes routine changes. More clothes on the kids in the morning. Must include socks and shoes..no sandals. Jackets? Where are the jackets?
The cold also means it is time to hang those Christmas lights. Which means I have to drag out the boxes of Christmas stuff. I never manage to put it all away neatly, so I am dreading opening those boxes again. Some year..I'll get it right.
I can't image what it must be like to have to shovel the walk. My brother and his wife (and they have a new little baby..so fun!) live in Idaho. I watch the news and see how cold it has been there lately. But my brother is a big guy. He can handle the shovel I'm sure. I bet they are looking forward to Christmas here in Phoenix tho.
I think of dear Hope in Alberta, Canada. I quote her:
Too cold for buses? UGH! At least you get to see all her Weather Pixies' cute cotes and jackets. Altho, I guess with mine you get to see the three different swimsuits she wears in the summer LOL. So, today..I am thankful for living in the desert. But ya know, it would be cute to see my little boys all bundled up in snowsuits..barely able to walk, like from The Christmas Story? Ah well, they'll just have to look cute in their flannel jackets and sweatshirts.
Happy shopping to you all only 26 days to go!

Today it is minus 27 C , which converts to -16F.
The windchill takes it down a few more degrees.
School has been cancelled. Too cold for the buses to run.

It is very cold and windy here today too. I also am thankful for no snow to shovel. We are thinking about taking Mr. P up to the mountains after Christmas. You guys can go to Prescott or around there for your fix, right?
I'm in Michigan.
It is balmy today.
Almost 70, and humid.
This is NOT normal November.

We'll be going from >50F today to <30F tomorrow. And it might snow. How appropriate if winter arrives on Dec 01. I would miss it if it didn't come, and I would be happy if it quit a month earlier than it does.
When Hope wrote that post, it was quite pleasant around here. But now that weather system seems to have moved our way and we're in a deepfreeze. Like AC says, I enjoy it for awhile, but it gets old quickly.
Yes, it was cold here in Calgary, Alberta last week. We have these wonderful freaks of nature called Chinooks. They're our saving grace through the winter. It's mild here now and really... we don't see THAT much serious winter.
Warm thoughts to you!
California.
Chilly and wet but Gina already told you that and she lives in the supposedly warm part.
