Eleven Days

Eleven days is a long time.
Eleven days isn't so long.
It's all about how you look at it.

The final eleven days before giving birth, tick by at an excurtiating slow rate.
The final eleven days before the due date of that big project at work just fly by.
The eleven days before Christmas? FOREVER!
The eleven days after Christmas, before school starts again? HORRIFIC!

LOL...So how have your last eleven days been? Did ya miss me?

The last week has been a difficult one for me.
I honestly believe I had West Nile Fever. Sounds crazy doesn't it? But I haven't been that (or this) sick in a very long time. I found this list of symptoms for it and I have changed to red all of the symptoms I have been suffering.

Mild disease, generally called West Nile fever, has some or all of the following symptoms:

* Fever
* Headache
* Back pain
* Muscle aches

* Lack of appetite

* Sore throat
* Nausea

* Vomiting

* Abdominal pain
* Diarrhea

You notice I changed them all to red? YEP! My fever parked itself at 103°F. I would take 600mg ibuprofen and 1000mg acetimetophen and after two hours the fever would drop to just over 100°F. This up and down chill and sweat fest went on for a full 24 hours. We made calls to Dr's offices and Urgent Care lines, but in the end decided to wait until the next morning to go in anywhere. By the next morning, The fever had settled down to a lower degree and so we didn't have to do the whole wait forever in the uncomfortable waiting room.

Now, this may seem like WAY TOO MUCH information. But, I find my own personal illnesses amazingly interesting (in this case AFTER it was passed the worst part tho). The shear volume of different symptoms made me really curious to figure out what virus I have been hit with. We asked the nurses we spoke with and each agreed it could very well be West Nile Virus but that I should wait to run to the ER until the high fever had persisted for three days. As most people who get the West Nile Fever recover after a couple of days. Well, I woke up with the fever much more undercontrol...so, gratefully it didn't turn into the more serious form of infection that can come with the illness.

The hardest part of it all...honestly wasn't getting so sick. Yes, my house fell apart. Can you spell F-I-L-T-H-Y. But, my husband DID take the time off work and kept the kids fed and clothed. The housework is caught up (kids and hubby did most of the heavy work). The hardest part is the weariness I still feel from it. Saturday night, my husband and I went to Wal-mart and I ended up shaking and sweating and nauseous barely fifteen minutes into the trip. I've lost my endurance! Weariness comes in waves of some of the most miserableness I've ever had. This extended recovery is the pits!

My husband is leaving out of town tomorrow for three days.

I'm actually going to have to work at pacing myself as I get back to my more normal energy levels. I'm not much of a pace myself type person. I tend to throw myself at things until I'm drained. With depleted reserves and my backup in Dallas...I have to actually, you know, pay attention. This will probably end up being Very good for me. Heh

On a postivie note, I took my toddlers to the park this morning for about a half hour. They loved the swings and crawling around. It is a sandless park with squishy padding under swings and play equipment instead...designed to be friendly for the disabled child...great park! I couldn't handle letting them dig in sand today. I survived it and it tired them out enough to go down for naptime well.

Now to getting caught up on my writing class...cub scouts...and well..blogging. Guess which one I picked first?

Oh dear.... West Nile Virus, carried by mosquitoes can be very very dangerous. Up here, any case gets local news coverage.
It is amazing how quickly your house can crumble around you when you are ill.
Be well, oshee

Oh goodness. My hubby thought he had this earlier in the year -- he felt really, really bad. I am glad that you are feeling better now.

Take it easy when it comes to getting the house back in shape, you need to get up to speed gradually.

You have been through, what might be, the seventh circle of hell!! I'm so sorry to hear that you were so sick. I once had a bout of encephalitis, brought on by a mosquito bite. It was bad...hallucinations, very high fever...BAD! I understand what you have been going through.

I wish that I could come help you out while your husband is away...but know that my thoughts are with you. I hope that you are feeling better soon.

That is just horrible. There is some serious stuff going around these days (we're getting it all the way up here in Canada!)

I hope you feel better soon. Do take it easy!!

BTW - good to read your blog again! I've been absent for way to long (broominyaya). I've decided to change my identity a bit from before and contribute to Bobita's site so as to not get too obsessed with it again. :)

In Michigan, you would have been front page news.

So glad you are recovering.

I missed you!
